Free photoshop-like download?

i need to work on a project at home for my web design class using photoshop. too bad photoshop isnt free! does anyone know a similar program that i can download for free and use functions like copying an image onto another and moving it, different filters, stuff like that?

The GIMP is free and very similar to photoshop. It is available for Windows, OS X, and Linux.

Well, Gimp for windows might do the trick. It's a free, open source alternative. I won't lie though, it's not nearly as easy to use as photoshop, but you can probably do anything you need to do in it:

I used to use this program all the time before I broke down and got photoshop...
